Shenzhen is one of the few places in the world whe Shenzhen is one of the few places in the world where you can witness a complete transformation within a single lifetime - from a fishing village to a global tech powerhouse. It was here in 1980 that China’s first Special Economic Zone was created, and today districts like Huaqiangbei are where much of the world’s electronics get prototyped before reaching the market.

In the same city, giants like Huawei, Tencent, BYD and DJI are headquartered. Drones are part of everyday life, from aerial filming to deliveries, while autonomous taxis are already being tested on real streets.

You can explore the tech by yourself or book a tour through Get Your Guide.

Hong Kong was originally a collection of small fis Hong Kong was originally a collection of small fishing villages under Qing dynasty rule before being ceded to the United Kingdom in 1842 after the First Opium War. Britain later expanded the colony to include Kowloon and the New Territories under long-term lease agreements. During World War II, Hong Kong was occupied by the Empire of Japan from 1941 to 1945, a period marked by hardship and population decline. After the war, waves of refugees from mainland China transformed the city into a manufacturing and financial powerhouse. By the 1970s and 1980s, it had become one of Asia’s leading economic centers. In 1997, British rule ended and sovereignty returned to China under the principle of “one country, two systems.”
